Amos 3:3
It's always hard to come to an agreement with someone when you simply disagree with them. Agreeing to disagree gives us a middle ground to stand on at times. Although this may work with man, it does not work with God. There's no doubt that in order to move forward together, both parties must agree on the important matters. On a human level alone, this makes perfect sense.
Let's take this same concept of agreeing on a matter and apply it to your walk with God,but first let's look into scripture:
Amos 3:3 "Can two walk together unless they are agreed?"
Scripture shows us the importance of agreeing with one another when it comes to achieving a set goal or vision. These are things we decide to do, using our own wisdom and with our own abilities. Many people have accomplished great things simply by agreeing with each other. Imagine what we can achieve when we agree with God!
Agreeing with one another is pivotal when it comes to walking together, it’s the same with God, unless we agree with Him, we can not walk with Him.
The bible instructs us of God's requirement for man. Micah 6:8 - "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?"
God expects man to seek Him and walk with Him. You were created to live every part of your life with God. Simply put, God requires you to walk with Him.
God created you to be like Him. In order to do so, you must partner with Him and walk with Him.
Genesis 1:26 says "Let us make man in our image and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
In the same way that God has dominion over the heavens, He created you to dominate the earth. What better way to do this than to walk with the One who is the master of dominion! This was the mind of God when He made you, so it is only right that He expects you to function according to the intention He had when making you.
You function at your highest capacity when you walk with God. This requires you to agree with Him in many ways.
Daily Reminders for Your Walk With God:
# 1 - You must agree with God in order to walk with Him.
By agreeing with someone, you come together with them, you are one with them concerning a matter. Knowing that God is all knowing, faithful, trustworthy and Sovereign, agreeing with Him should not be an issue for us.
Unfortunately, the enemy is a master of deception and he will fill your heart with so much doubt, anxiety and fear that stop you from agreeing with God. If Satan can get you to doubt God or to doubt what God says about you, then he has succeeded in hindering your walk with God. This is the same tactic he used in the garden of Eden.
How do we fight this? Faith! Being assured of something that your physical eye can not see. It takes faith to agree with what God has spoken over your life through His word.
# 2- God is Spirit.
Since God is Spirit, we must be careful to relate with Him also in spirit. The leading of the Holy Spirit guides us and shows us how to connect with our Father in spirit. This is why it is important to edify your spirit man, that is what is most like God in its nature. Myles Munroe once said “your body is an earthly suit that allows you to interact on this earth”. If you are focused on connecting with God through the medium of your body, you hinder the depth of relationship you can have with Him. Jesus mentions this “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth”- John 4:24.
# 3 - Acknowledge and walk with God as a friend, because He sees you as His.
Genesis 3:8 “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”
Genesis 3:9 “But the LORD God called to the man and said to him “Where are you?”.
Genesis 18:16 “The LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do…”
John 15: 14-15 “You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing: but I haven called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
These examples of scripture are quite self explanatory. God sees you as His friend, as one He can talk to, one He can have fellowship with, if you do as He commands. As you walk with God, you realise that fellowship with Him is the most beautiful thing to ever happen to man. Fellowship with the God of the universe is a privilege, and He has chosen you to enjoy this fellowship with Him.
# 4- If you are wrongly positioned you can not walk with God…
If you are wrongly positioned you can not walk with God.
If you are not in line with God, you can not walk with God.
If you are heading a different direction to where God is, you can not walk with God.
If you are living a life of disobedience to God, how can you expect to walk with Him?
It is impossible to walk with someone yet be somewhere that the person isn’t.
Even the enemy understands this, and that’s why he used this tactic to steal the dominion from man. Satan’s agenda was to separate man from God, that is still his goal now.
What is the right position for you then? - RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Righteousness is a concept that we have misunderstood for so long. Simply put, righteousness is being in right standing with God. Throughout the bible this has always been important in the relationship between God and man.
Q: Are we not already in right standing with God through Christ now?
A: Christ puts us in the right position with God. We, however, make the daily decision to stay in right standing with God through the way we choose to live.
(Psalm 119:11 - “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.”)
Let me explain…
In the Old Testament, righteousness was achieved through faith and also through the careful and heartfelt obedience of the law: (Genesis 15:6 and Joshua 1:8). In the New Testament, we see that we are made righteous with God through Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross. His atonement for our sins makes us right with God. In summary, the sinful man needs to be made right with God. Righteousness is therefore required in order for you to walk with God.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Summary
God expects you to walk with Him in order to fulfil His purpose for you
You must agree with God to walk with God (agree in faith)
You can’t walk with God if you are wrongly positioned
Seek His righteousness (right standing with God) every day
Reflection:
Galatians 5:16 “But I say, walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
God desires to walk with you so much that He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for your sins and put you back in right standing with God. He did this so that you can have fellowship with Him and walk with Him.
